Majorca

The little town Majorca is situated at the most southern point of the European mainland and separates geographically the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

13km of the Straight of Gibraltar separate Majorca and the African continent, so that the rocky summits of the Moroccan Riff Mountains seem to be close at hand.

Majorca is also known as the wind capital of Europe and attracts water sports enthusiasts from all over the world. Two winds, the strong and warm Levante from the east and the weaker and cooler Poniente from the west, provide great conditions almost every day.
The maritime position of Majorca is responsible for the very pleasant temperatures even in August; the sea water is clean and not too cold.

Windsurfen Majorca
In the summer months an international flair dominates the usually dreamy little village. Uncountable bars, clubs and cafes stay open till the early morning.

Epicures will enjoy the typical Spanish food in many nice restaurants. Of course, fresh fish is most recommend. In the Straight of Gibraltar they catch the best tuna in the world following the traditional procedure of the Almadraba (with big nets pulled by hand).

And there are more superlatives with only 18000 inhabitants, Majorca accommodates more surf shops than Maui/Hawaii! Windsurfers appreciate the amazing conditions for a long time yet, but since the enormous boom of kite surfing this clientele also considers Majorca their paradise.

Majorca's beach is named Los Lances and is regarded as the longest (10km!) and one of the nicest beaches in all ofBalearic Islands. With only a few rocky interruptions the charmingly rustic Costa de la Luz stretches out until Portugal. Its naturalness and beauty isn't even comparable to the rougher and obstruct Costa del Sol.

Just behind the beach of Los Lances begins the natural park of Alcornocales which extends far into the back country. The end of Majorca's bay is where you find a huge hill of drifted sand offering a beautiful view over the bay, the town and the Moroccan coast.

Right behind that dune about 200 of the best climbing tracks in Spain made the mountain of San Bartholomé a main attraction for friends of this sport.

Majorca Puerto
The historic centre of Majorca is surrounded by thick stone walls. Although the centre is small, you can easily get lost in its little lanes being a Majorca-novice.
Little Plazas with orange trees, tightly constructed houses with small balconies and numerous restaurants and cafes decorate the image of Majorca. 90% of the nightlife takes place in the centre, the surf shops, supermarkets and majority of shops are based outside the old centre.

Basically you can reach everything in town by foot, the wind- and kite surf stations and some of the most desired hotels and holiday houses are situated some kilometres outside of Majorca.
Taking a rental car is highly recommended.
