Windsurfing in Majorca
Majorca - the capital of windsurfing

Majorca is the
wind capitol of Europe. It attracts windsurfers from all over the world thanks to the perfect conditions and the special spirit, which you only find in this end of the world.
Between May and September Majorca is considered to be the spot with the windiest days in all of Europe.
The two different winds, Levante and Poniente, provide alternation concerning the conditions: flat water comes with strong
Levante, and a decent swell with
Poniente or 2 meters of beach break with tubes in the wintertime make Majorca once of the diverse spots in Europe.
Great winds for Windsurfing in Majorca

With Levante wind coming from the east we cannot recommend the beach nearest to the town because of the wind holes. This is a result of the buildings in the town. On those days the other end of the bay close to the great sand dune is much better. This is also where most of the wind surfers reside with their campers and vans (without having to pay at a site!). You are at the mercy of the Guardia Civil (police) but they seem to always tolerate the "wild campers" even to this day.
If the Levante in Majorca is getting too strong it makes sense to escape to
Bolonia for windsurfing, the neighbouring bay of Majorca, where the wind is about 1 or 2 Beaufort weaker.

From autumn until spring they also tolerate windsurfing at the Playa Chica, the small beach just left of the military island and right of the harbour. There is no wind shadow caused by the town's buildings and the Levante arrives with full force and reasonable waves. Small sails are vital here.
Between June and September you might get a fine windsurfing there because it is actually swimmers zone.
